Madrid Begins its Wine Harvest

Como cada año, la variedad preferente Albillo Real inaugura la temporada.

Given that the wine-making year is characterised by a rainy winter, a dry spring and high temperatures in March, the cycle of the grapevine in the Region of Madrid is almost three weeks early in comparison with the previous year. From the information we have, we expect the harvest of Albillo Real—the earliest of Madrid’s varieties, to begin around the second fortnight in August, followed at the end of the month by Merlot, Moscatel Grano Menudo and Syrah.

As regards the crop, it is estimated to drop by 22% in comparison with the previous year, which was unusually high, and will comprise approximately 17 million kilos of grapes in the three sub-areas of the Wines of Madrid Designation of Origin—Arganda, Navalcarnero and San Martín de Valdeiglesias—.
