On 16 September next, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week celebrates its 58th anniversary and will fulfill one of its main ambitions by opening Spain’s most important fashion and textile events to other countries. Peru will the first country invited to the official section, where it will present the collections of three of its most renowned designers: Jessica Butrich, Meche Correa and Stika Semsch.

The initiative, promoted by the Embajada de Perú en España and Promperú, hopes to reveal the exciting moment of the fashion industry in this Latin American country, currently changing its productive model. The fact is that today Peru doesn’t only export raw material—fibres such as alpaca wool and vicuna have caused a stir in important brands, but hopes to attain the same levels of influence that the country’s food sector has obtained over the past decade thanks to the international prestige of its chefs. Thus, the rag trade is experiencing a process akin to recent developments in the food industry, cherishing and exporting design.
