Spanish tourism continues to be in good shape despite being distinctly seasonal. The money spent by visitors in summer differs considerably to that of other seasons, and in fact amounts to almost 40% of the annual total. As to their country of origin, recent data continues to prove that American tourists are those who spend the most on a daily basis during their stay in our country. In this sense, Madrid is by far the city where more money is spent.

Besides these statistics, we should also bear in mind the international reputation that the city has acquired over recent years, as illustrated by The Globe Shopper Index, which gives it second place in its rating of visitors’ favourite cities, surpassed only by London in terms of leisure and shopping facilities. In this context, MasterCard has decided to capitalise on these strengths launching its MasterCard USvisitors programme to encourage the use of their credit cards among American tourists in Madrid.
